Welcome to Enrichment - AKA Science class.
A little bit about me:
I grew up on our family cattle farm in Kingsland, AR. We raised Brangus beef cattle. From the age of 9 to 17 I showed our cattle at the county, district and state level livestock shows. During that time I met many wonderful friends and learned many life lessons. After completeing high school at Rison, AR, I attended the University of AR at Monticello and received my bachelors degree in Agriculture Business.
I moved to Lonoke in 2004 with my family and we've called it "home" ever since. I have 2 sons, Ethan (22) and Jacob (19), who is a sophomore at the University of Arkansas.
I received my Non-Traditional Teaching Certificate in 2007 and taught second grade one year in Stuttgart before returning to Lonoke to teach first grade in 2008. I began teaching our science classes in 2014 and I am loving it. It is my desire to instill a love of science into our students. I hope to create in our students an interest in nature and the animal habitats around us. This year I am also facilitator of our Pitsco Lab for our students in the Envision classes.
Last spring we had our first ever school garden. Our local Lions Club was very helpful in obtaining donations of wood and soil for our garden beds. Our spring harvest included lettuce and spinach, which students picked and then took to our food service workers, who then prepared it for our lunch. We hope to enlarge our garden by 1 more bed and have another garden in the spring. We are also hoping to have our butterfly garden ready by next spring. Be sure to check our the Lonoke Primary School facebook page for pictures of our ongoing activities and projects.
