UPDATE! March 12th 11:30 a.m.
Influenza and COVID-19
Dear Parents and Students:
Thank you for your ongoing support as we work to provide exceptional services and educational opportunities for all of our students in the Lonoke Public School District. From outstanding teaching and learning to comprehensive healthcare services, we are striving to meet the needs of the "whole child" in our district.
As you are aware, school nurses and doctors in our School Based Health Clinic have been diagnosing and treating influenza over the past several weeks. Based on the guidance we have received from the Arkansas Department of Health, we are encouraging students to wash their hands frequently and to avoid touching their eyes, nose, and mouth in order to prevent the possible spread of influenza. Thank you for your help in emphasizing these basic measures to your children.
In addition, the Lonoke Public School District is aware of the risk of COVID-19 internationally, and district personnel are working with the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) to identify students and staff who may have traveled from the affected countries. District staff will collaborate with ADH officials if any such students or staff are identified. School and district prevention and response measures have been distributed to district staff members to ensure the health and safety of all our students and staff.
Here’s how you can help:
Please keep your children home if they have flu-like symptoms. We want to prevent the transmission of illness.
Students should be fever-free for 24 hours, without medication, before returning to school.
Please inform school officials/healthcare staff if you have plans to travel abroad or go on a cruise. Please keep in mind that, beginning Friday, March 13, 2020, at midnight, all travel from Europe to the United States is suspended for 30 days.
Contact your school if your child is ill, so school personnel can have time to prepare make-up work. This is helpful anytime your child is out sick.
Contact Coach Harry Wright if you have any questions about potential extracurricular activity cancellations or rescheduled events at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 501-676-6749.
Frequently check our website for any updates related to COVID-19. Only the Secretary of Health, in consultation with the Secretary of Education, is authorized to close schools for concerns related to COVID-19. We are receiving ongoing updates from the Arkansas Department of Education and the Arkansas Department of Health and will share pertinent information as we receive it.
Feel free to call Nurse Leah Robinson at 501-676-3819, ext. 3008, if you have questions or concerns about COVID-19 or illness in your child’s school or contact her at email@example.com.
If you have concerns about your health or questions about COVID-19 symptoms, contact the UAMS HealthNow service at https://uamshealth.com/healthnow/. This is a free service provided to all Arkansans.
Be assured that the health and well-being of your child is of utmost importance to us. Our outstanding healthcare team, administration, teachers, staff, and support personnel continue to work, in collaboration, to provide the best for your child.
Thanks again for allowing us to serve
